Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program (PMHNP)

Become a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and serve the healthcare needs of various individuals.

A Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice nurse who specializes in mental health care in their communities. With a focus on lifetime mental health care, PMHNPs are committed to promoting mental health through assessment, diagnosis and treatment of behavioral problems, mental disorders, and comorbid conditions. They work in a variety of health care settings in the community, including private practices, substance use disorder clinics, in-patient clinics, schools, urgent cares, rehab centers, and more.

Why Should You Become a PMHNP?

Your community needs you! Mental illnesses are among the most common health conditions in the United States. PMHNPs act as patient advocates and champion stigma reduction. As registered nurses with advanced master’s degrees, PMHNPs possess the education and training to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders. They work to help the 1 in 5 Americans who will experience a mental illness in a given year, thereby strengthening and improving the lives of individuals and their communities.

At Frontier Nursing University, we’re committed to a culture of caring that ensures every student feels they are part of a tight-knit community. Our faculty are committed to being present and supportive throughout your educational journey. And with FNU’s distance education model, your home community is your classroom.
