Nurse-Midwifery Program (Certified Nurse-Midwife, CNM)

Why Should You Become a CNM at FNU?

A growing number of health care organizations are embracing a collaborative model of health care and adding nurse-midwives to their teams. Our goal at FNU is to educate the next generation of nurse-midwives to ensure midwifery care is available to all who seek it.

Nurse-midwives contribute significantly to better care for women and families, as their unique skill sets help improve care quality and decrease costs. They also serve as excellent advocates for patients, which is particularly important as more and more women are seeking out-of-hospital care.

At Frontier Nursing University, we’re committed to a culture of caring that ensures every student feels they are part of a tight-knit community. Our faculty are committed to being present and supportive throughout your educational journey. And with FNU’s distance education model, your home community is your classroom. You complete your clinical practicum in your community, working closely with a certified nurse-midwife or other practitioner.

What Can You Expect from Your Nurse-Midwifery Program?

Upon completion of the Nurse-Midwifery program at FNU, you’ll be equipped to provide gynecologic and family planning services including preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and newborn care. You’ll learn what it takes to excel at conducting annual exams, writing prescriptions, and offering basic nutrition counseling.

  • Complete your didactic coursework online at home
  • Full or part-time options available
  • Can be obtained either through a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or a Post-Graduate Certificate (PGC)
  • Two brief on-campus stays
  • Complete your clinical practicum in your home community
  • Add a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner Post-Graduate Certificate with only 4 credit hours and 180 clinical hours

FNU students who complete the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program will have the option to continue on to the DNP program. Students who complete the Post-Graduate Certificate (PGC) program will have the option to continue on to the Post-Master’s DNP program.
